Antietam National Battlefield Park is located just a few miles south of Hagerstown, near the Potomic River and the town of Sharpsburg. Beautifully preserved and administered by the National Park Service, visitor information can be found at http://www.nps.gov/anti/

The C & O Canal is one of the earliest water transportation routes in the country. Today the 184 mile canal is preserved as part of the National Park system.
